GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Two individuals have been arrested in connection with a year-long debit card fraud case that resulted in $18,000 in unauthorized charges in Pitt County.
Authorities say the victim permitted Melissa Chandler, 36, and Shannon Waller, 43, to move into her Greenville home and use her debit card to help cover household bills. However, the situation escalated when the pair allegedly made repeated unauthorized transactions.
The fraudulent charges reportedly occurred over a span of one year, ultimately totaling $18,000.
Melissa Chandler faces a lengthy list of charges, including:
14 counts of financial transaction card fraud
62 counts of identity theft
61 counts of obtaining property by false pretense
2 counts of felony conspiracy
2 counts of attempting to obtain property by false pretense
She is currently held at the Pitt County Detention Center under a $410,000 secured bond.
Shannon Waller has been charged with:
Financial transaction card fraud
Identity theft
9 counts of obtaining property by false pretense
2 counts of felony conspiracy
Waller is being held at the Wayne County Detention Center on unrelated charges and will be served warrants for this case while in custody.
