RACINE, Wis. — A Racine woman, Melisa Bodoh, 51, has been charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide following a shooting that left a man with life-threatening injuries.
The incident occurred on June 18 at a home on Carlisle Avenue near Kewaunee Street. Racine police were dispatched at approximately 6:20 p.m. after receiving reports of a man shot in the neck. Officers arrived to find the male victim lying on the kitchen floor and immediately transported him to the hospital.
According to the criminal complaint, Bodoh and the victim — her estranged husband of 15 years — were alone in the house when the shooting happened. A third party, the homeowner, told police she was at a store at the time and received a call from the victim saying he was leaving. Shortly after, she received a second call from Bodoh, who allegedly said, “he choked me, come home.”
Upon returning, the homeowner discovered the victim bleeding and heard Bodoh say, “he was choking me, I didn’t mean it.” Bodoh also reportedly admitted to being scared and questioned officers, asking, “am I going to jail for life?”
While Bodoh alleged the victim had hit her, investigators found no visible injuries. She later indicated she wanted to speak to an attorney.
Bodoh appeared in court on June 19, where her cash bond was set at $50,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 26.
Authorities continue to investigate the case, which highlights the severe dangers of domestic disputes escalating into violence.
