Saratoga County, NY (WRGB) — Authorities have charged 39-year-old Mehul Goswami of Latham, New York, with allegedly defrauding the state of more than $50,000. Investigators say Goswami worked a second full-time job in the Town of Malta while being paid to work remotely for the New York State Office of Information Technology Services (ITS).
The arrest followed a joint investigation by the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Inspector General’s Office. Sheriff Michael H. Zurlo praised the collaboration, saying it demonstrates the “power of teamwork” among law enforcement agencies and expressed confidence in the case’s successful prosecution.
New York State Inspector General Lucy Lang condemned the alleged conduct, emphasizing that public employees must act with integrity. “Working a second, full-time job while claiming to work for the State is an abuse of taxpayer resources,” Lang stated. “We will continue to work with our partners to ensure accountability in public service.”
On October 15, 2025, Goswami was arrested and charged with grand larceny in the second degree, a class C felony. He was arraigned before Judge James A. Fauci in Malta Town Court and released on his own recognizance pending future court proceedings.
Under New York State’s bail reform law, effective since January 2020, the charge is not a qualifying offense for bail.
