Meerut: Saharanpur’s Sadar Bazar police have busted a child trafficking gang, arresting six individuals, including two women. The accused, Gopal, Ankush, Salman, Priti, Deepa, and Naina, allegedly kidnapped and sold children across western Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. One juvenile was also taken into custody.

The case came to light on October 14 after a resident reported that his one-year-old son had been abducted. SSP Saharanpur, Ashish Tiwari, said police quickly launched a search following a tip-off and raided a dilapidated railway quarter near Khalasi Line, where the accused were apprehended.

Authorities recovered the kidnapped child, three mobile phones, and Rs 1,350 in cash. During questioning, the suspects admitted they planned to sell the child to co-accused Naina for Rs 3.5 lakh to make quick money ahead of the festive season.

Tiwari added that the gang targeted railway stations, crowded festivals, and impoverished families living on pavements. Police are investigating their wider network to uncover additional accomplices. A case has been registered under sections 139, 143, 61(2), 98, and 3(5) of the BNS, with legal proceedings ongoing.
