Thane city police arrested a 48-year-old medical sales representative from Rajasthan, Suresh Parmar, after seizing over 1 kg of codeine powder valued at Rs2 crore. The arrest occurred on May 9 when the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) acted on a tip-off and raided a hotel near Thane railway station.
Parmar, a medical sales representative by profession, had received the codeine, an opiate in powder form, through a courier service from Jodhpur, Rajasthan. The contraband was found in his possession when he was apprehended at the hotel.
The codeine seized is a controlled substance under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Parmar has been arrested, and investigations are underway to determine the source of the codeine and the intended destination for distribution. Authorities are working to uncover further details regarding the drug trafficking network.
