Mechanicville, N.Y. — A Mechanicville man has been sentenced after pleading guilty to multiple felony charges stemming from a 2024 investigation into unlawful surveillance, according to the Mechanicville Police Department.
Officials say 47-year-old Gregory Shorter was arrested in May 2024 after police received a complaint alleging he had secretly installed and used electronic recording devices to capture another person without consent.
During the investigation, authorities executed a court-authorized search warrant at Shorter’s residence, where they seized multiple electronic devices, recording equipment, and a firearm — leading to additional weapons-related charges.
Following an extensive investigation that included several search warrants, interviews, and forensic analysis of digital evidence, Shorter was charged with multiple felonies. He later pleaded guilty in Saratoga County Court on August 6, 2025, and was sentenced on October 8, 2025.
Sentencing details include:
Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree (Class D Violent Felony): 3 years in prison and 3 years of post-release supervision.
Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child (Class D Felony): 2–7 years in prison.
Unlawful Surveillance in the Second Degree (Class E Felony): 1–3 years in prison.
The sex and surveillance sentences will run concurrently, while the weapons charge will run consecutively.
Mechanicville Police Chief William Rabbitt commended investigators for their dedication, saying the case required “numerous search warrants, extensive follow-up interviews, and careful handling of sensitive digital evidence.”
“I am extremely proud of the diligence and professionalism our officers demonstrated from the very beginning of this case through its successful prosecution,” Rabbitt said.
