WAKISO, Uganda (KSLA) — A mechanic is currently on the run after allegedly masterminding the theft of two vehicles in Bukasa village, Wakiso district, on May 10, 2025.

Police reports confirm that two vehicles, a white Toyota RAV4 (UAL 130P) and a white Toyota Harrier (UBR 645J), were stolen in what authorities are calling aggravated robberies. However, the Toyota Harrier was recovered in Mukono town after police conducted a thorough investigation, including reviewing CCTV footage.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango, officers from the Flying Squad and Wakiso Police were able to trace the vehicle to SS Bar and Gardens in Mukono, where two suspects were arrested. Statements have been recorded from the two detained individuals.

The prime suspect, Lwanyaga Joseph, a mechanic, is believed to have orchestrated the thefts. Lwanyaga is no stranger to the authorities, as he had been previously arrested and issued a police bond for similar offenses. He is currently at large, and police are intensifying their efforts to capture him.

The investigation is still ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information about Lwanyaga’s whereabouts to come forward. The two arrested suspects remain in custody at Mukono Police Station.
