Arunachal Pradesh police have arrested two individuals in connection with the December 8 tragedy in Anjaw district, where a truck carrying 21 workers fell into a 200-metre gorge, claiming their lives.

The arrested accused have been identified as Md Sirajul Ahmed, a contractor, and Sairuddin Ali, a head mason (rajmistri), both hailing from Tinsukia district in Assam. According to Tinsukia SSP Mayank Kumar, the duo has been booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including trafficking of persons, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, acts endangering life or personal safety, and criminal conspiracy.

Authorities have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the entire network involved in the illegal labour operation. Investigators are working to uncover additional links and hold accountable all those responsible for facilitating the transport of labourers under unsafe conditions.

The arrests mark a significant step in the ongoing investigation into the fatal incident, highlighting the risks of illegal labour trafficking and the authorities’ commitment to pursuing justice for the victims.
