SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A Springfield woman is facing serious charges after allegedly breaking into the same home on two consecutive days, claiming ownership of the property, and throwing the homeowner’s pet snake during a confrontation.
McKenna Nicole Holmes, born in 1994, has been charged with two counts of felony first-degree burglary in Greene County Circuit Court, according to court records.
The first incident occurred on Tuesday, Sept. 16, when Springfield police found Holmes inside the home, where she had previously been trespassed on July 6. Officers reportedly located her inside with the victim’s pet ball python.
The following day, Sept. 17, Holmes returned. According to the probable cause statement, the victim was in her bathroom when she heard someone walking around. She discovered Holmes sitting on her couch and, after repeated demands for her to leave, pepper sprayed Holmes when she refused to respond.
Rather than flee, Holmes allegedly ran outside, rolled around the yard, and threw the victim’s snake into the grass. She then attempted to re-enter the home but was stopped by the victim and held until police arrived.
Holmes reportedly claimed the home and the snake were hers, saying her “husband built the house.” Police, however, confirmed she had no legal claim to the property.
Later that same day, Holmes was arrested again for an unprovoked downtown assault in a separate incident.
She is currently being held at the Greene County Jail on a $10,000 bond. If convicted, Holmes faces up to 30 years in prison.
