A 27-year-old MBA student, Manish Kumar alias Bilal, was arrested for allegedly stealing high-end mobile phones, including two iPhones, from the e-commerce company where he was employed in southwest Delhi’s Sagarpur.

The incident occurred on August 9, and a complaint was filed at the Sagarpur police station by the company located in Dashrath Puri, Dabri-Palam Road. The FIR was registered under Sections 305 and 331 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for theft and housebreaking.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Amit Goel said, “Based on technical surveillance and local interrogation, the suspect was identified as Manish Kumar, a resident of Mohan Garden, Uttam Nagar, and an employee of the firm.”

Manish, who worked as a team leader, had cut off the CCTV power supply before stealing the mobile phones. Acting on intelligence from local sources, police tracked and apprehended him in Sagarpur last Wednesday.

During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime. Investigations revealed that he had joined the company 10 months ago and was facing financial difficulties due to EMIs on a personal loan. Unsatisfied with his salary, he resorted to stealing from the company.

The police are continuing to probe whether the accused had any accomplices or prior history of theft.
