HESPERIA, CA — Authorities have arrested a 63-year-old foster mother in connection with a felony child abuse case and are warning the public that additional victims may be involved.
On Tuesday, Mayra Alvarez De Giron was taken into custody at her residence on Sweet Water Avenue in Hesperia, following an investigation by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Crimes Against Children (CAC) Detail.
The investigation began in February after deputies received reports that a 7-year-old foster child may have been abused. The child had been placed in Alvarez De Giron’s care by Los Angeles County Children and Family Services.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, Alvarez De Giron was identified as a suspect during the investigation, which led to a felony child abuse charge and the issuance of an arrest warrant.
She was booked into the High Desert Detention Center and is being held without bail.
Detectives believe there could be more victims associated with Alvarez De Giron’s previous foster care placements. In an effort to identify other potential victims, her photo has been released to the public.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
