CHICAGO — A 26-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly shooting and killing another man during a fight early Sunday morning on Chicago’s Southwest Side, according to police.

Authorities said Maynor Vasquez Gomez, of Chicago, was arrested and charged following the fatal shooting, which happened around 2:14 a.m. in the 6400 block of South Fairfield Avenue in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood.

Police reported that a 23-year-old man was in the backyard of a home when an argument broke out between him and Gomez. During the altercation, Gomez allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the victim in the chest.

The victim was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he died from his injuries.

Gomez was taken into custody about an hour after the shooting, police said. He is scheduled to appear at a detention hearing on Tuesday.
