In a breakthrough in the Mayank Mahajan murder case, the Pathankot police have arrested three individuals involved in the crime. The suspects, identified as Sanjeev Singh, Varun Thakur, and Bhanu Partap Singh, were arrested following a thorough investigation.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Daljinder Singh Dhillon, the incident occurred on May 17 when Mayank Mahajan and his friend, Rakesh Kumar Bedi, were traveling back to Pathankot from Sujanpur in a car. As they drove, they were pursued by two men on a motorcycle. The motorcyclist fired a gunshot at Mahajan, hitting him in the right side of his head and causing severe bleeding. Mahajan was rushed to a private hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
An FIR was filed at the Division No 2 police station, but initially, the police were unable to identify the perpetrators. The case sent shockwaves through the local community, prompting SSP Dhillon to deploy 10 police teams to investigate the crime.
Through careful investigation, the police were able to identify the culprits. Bhanu Partap Singh, a mining businessman, was found to be the mastermind behind the murder. Police revealed that Singh had a long-standing enmity with Mahajan, who had previously filed two complaints against Singh. These complaints were still under investigation by the authorities.
After the murder, Singh fled the state and was tracked to Rajasthan and then to Karnataka. The Pathankot police finally apprehended him in Bengaluru.
This arrest brings some closure to the case, but police continue to investigate the full scope of the conflict between Mahajan and Singh.
