Maximino Rivera Charged in Fatal Chicago DUI Crash

Crash killed passenger, injured another driver in March

CHICAGO – A 42-year-old Westchester man, Maximino Rivera, has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal DUI crash that occurred in March on Chicago’s West Side, according to Chicago police.

The crash took place on March 8 in the 1500 block of North Central Avenue, where Rivera, allegedly intoxicated, collided with another vehicle. The impact killed a 41-year-old passenger in Rivera’s vehicle and injured a 59-year-old man in the other car.

Rivera was arrested on Wednesday, nearly five months after the incident, in the 1700 block of South State Street. Authorities did not disclose the reason for the delay in arrest.

Rivera now faces the following charges and citations:

One felony count of aggravated DUI involving death

One felony count of aggravated DUI involving bodily harm

Traffic citation for disobeying a traffic control device

Traffic citation for failing to reduce speed

The identity of the deceased passenger has not yet been released.

Rivera’s detention hearing was scheduled for Wednesday at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse.
