YUBA CITY, Calif. — Yuba City police have arrested an adult and a juvenile following a violent daytime robbery at a local jewelry store that left the owner injured and an estimated $1 million in gold merchandise stolen.
The robbery occurred shortly after 1 p.m. on January 18 at a jewelry store located along the 400 block of Palora Avenue. Investigators believe four suspects were involved in the crime. According to police, three masked individuals entered the store carrying hammers while a fourth suspect waited outside in a getaway vehicle.
Authorities say the suspects smashed display cases and stole large quantities of gold jewelry. During the incident, the store owner was struck in the chest with a hammer and suffered minor injuries.
As the suspects fled the scene, a witness followed their vehicle and provided real-time updates to police dispatchers. Officers later located the abandoned car near Richland Road and Estates Drive, where the suspects reportedly fled on foot.
Police deployed a drone to assist in the search and located two suspects hiding in a nearby residential yard. The remaining two suspects were not located and are believed to have escaped.
Investigators later determined the suspected getaway vehicle had been reported stolen out of Oakland earlier the same day. Several pieces of stolen jewelry were recovered from inside the vehicle, though police say a significant portion of the merchandise remains missing.
One suspect, identified as 32-year-old Maurice Lee Jackson of Oakland, was booked into the Sutter County Jail on charges related to robbery and assault. A second suspect, a minor, was taken into custody and booked into the Tri-County Youth Development Center.
The investigation remains ongoing as police continue efforts to identify and locate the remaining suspects.
