Mauaima police announced the dismantling of an inter-district gang involved in stealing water pumping sets installed in fields across the trans-Ganga and trans-Yamuna regions. The gang members were arrested on Sunday near Mahrauda crossing while attempting to sell stolen parts.
The police recovered a large haul of dismantled parts from eight stolen pumping sets and an auto vehicle from the suspects. The four arrested individuals were identified as Hanumat Singh alias Kedar (24) of Mauaima, Shiv Shankar (20) of Lokapur, Pintoo Saroj (26) of Pratapgarh, and Ranjeet Kumar (19) of Soraon.
During questioning, the thieves confessed that they would conduct surveillance of the pumping sets installed in the fields of Mauaima, Soraon, and Holagarh blocks during the day. At night, they would steal these sets and sell the dismantled parts at low prices.
The police became aware of the gang’s activities after a complaint was filed by a pumping set owner, who reported that his set, installed in a field in Maganpur village, was stolen between March 19 and 20. Based on this complaint, an investigation was launched, which led to the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the stolen parts.
The police are continuing their investigation into the gang’s activities, and the arrested individuals will face charges for their involvement in the thefts.
