A notorious shoplifter, Matthew Schramm, has been sentenced to 16 months in prison after his string of thefts from Evesham’s major retailers. The 43-year-old, who had previously been given a suspended sentence for theft, was arrested for breaching his bail conditions.
Schramm’s crime spree included stealing from well-known stores such as Tesco, B&M, and The Range. His actions led to a community backlash, with police labelling his criminal activity as a blight on Evesham’s retail sector. Schramm, who has no fixed address, was sentenced at Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court after being found guilty of multiple thefts.
In addition to his prison sentence, Schramm was already under a three-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) that banned him from entering specific retail locations, including Waitrose, Home Bargains, and Boots. This CBO, which began in August 2024, was violated as Schramm continued his thefts despite the legal restrictions.
Pc Matt Beards of the Evesham Town Centre Team expressed satisfaction with the outcome, stating that the community and local retailers could now feel assured that justice had been served. He also emphasized the department’s commitment to addressing acquisitive crime and preventing further offenses.
