A Wyoming County, West Virginia, man was arrested just after midnight on New Year’s Eve following a domestic dispute that reportedly turned physical inside a residence.
Matthew Matz was contacted by deputies shortly after 12:10 a.m. when Cpl. Zach Cook responded to a reported domestic incident. Officers observed that Matz appeared highly intoxicated and was unable to clearly explain the events.
According to authorities, a second individual at the residence said Matz had been drinking, arguing, and preparing to leave when he allegedly kicked a piece of firewood toward the person. The wood struck the individual’s shin, causing a large abrasion and bruising, and a physical altercation ensued before the parties separated prior to law enforcement’s arrival.
Based on the statements and injuries observed, deputies determined the confrontation became physical due to Matz’s actions. He was arrested and charged with domestic battery, then transported to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office for processing.
