PLACERVILLE, Calif. — An El Dorado County mail theft report in October led to a major arrest and the recovery of thousands of stolen items across three counties.
Matthew Henson, the suspect, allegedly charged thousands of dollars using stolen credit cards in El Dorado, Sacramento, and Amador counties. The investigation expanded into a multi-county operation with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
Search warrants executed at Henson’s properties uncovered firearms, ammunition, illegal mailbox keys, fake driver’s licenses, credit card embossing machines, and thousands of pieces of stolen mail. License plate covers used to evade identification were also recovered.
Henson was booked into the El Dorado County Jail with $615,000 bail and faces felony charges including identity theft, grand theft, illegal credit card use, and possession of firearms and ammunition as a felon.
The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that the arrest reflects its mission of “total enforcement on crime and criminals” and “total care for victims, witnesses and the community.”
