WARREN, Mich. — Matthew Gonzales, 45, of Warren, faces multiple felony charges after allegedly stealing a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado and a trailer filled with tools from Warren Mott High School on July 29.
Authorities say the theft occurred when a Warren Consolidated Schools employee was working at the school and someone entered his SUV, driving away with the vehicle and trailer. The trailer contained three lawnmowers, a chainsaw, and a leaf blower, all property of the school district.
Police located the stolen vehicle on Mound Road and attempted to pull it over. Gonzales refused to stop and led officers on a pursuit into Detroit, where he was eventually arrested.
On July 30, Gonzales was charged with larceny over $20,000, unlawful driving away, third-degree fleeing police, and driving with a suspended license.
He was held on a $1 million bond and ordered to undergo a substance abuse evaluation. If he posts bond, Gonzales must wear a GPS tether and submit to random drug testing as conditions of his release.
