Delhi Police have arrested 37-year-old Pramod Kumar Gupta, a mathematics graduate from Raghubir Nagar, West Delhi, for allegedly stealing and selling more than 50 mobile phones. Gupta, who holds a mathematics degree from a government institute in Ghonda, Uttar Pradesh, had received mobile phone repair training in 2020. However, he turned to stealing and selling mobile phones across Delhi and Haryana to make quick money, as revealed by police officials.
Pramod Kumar Gupta, a Sonipat, Haryana resident with a prior criminal record, was arrested after police recovered 52 stolen mobile phones and 15 cell phone motherboards from his possession. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), Vichitra Veer, confirmed the details.
On March 6, the police received a tip-off about a man attempting to sell a large number of stolen mobile phones in Raghubir Nagar. Acting on the information, a team set up a trap near NWB Chowk Road. At around 12:30 am on March 7, Gupta was spotted carrying a backpack filled with mobile phones. He was apprehended, and the stolen items were seized.
The investigation continues as authorities work to trace the origin of the stolen phones and identify others involved in the racket.
