BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office has arrested 21-year-old Mason Ray Rodriguez in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred Monday night in far west Bexar County.
During a Tuesday news conference, Sheriff Javier Salazar confirmed Rodriguez turned himself in just hours after allegedly firing at least a dozen rounds at 29-year-old Enrique Javier Perales.
Deputies responded to a shooting call around 7 p.m. at a residence in the 6700 block of Calle Fincias, near U.S. Highway 90. Investigators believe Rodriguez, accompanied by several other individuals, used a 9 mm handgun to shoot Perales before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.
Perales was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities say both men were romantically linked to the same woman, potentially fueling the deadly confrontation. It’s still unclear whether the woman was present during the shooting.
Rodriguez allegedly tried to dispose of the weapon and a high-capacity magazine, but investigators have since recovered both.
Sheriff Salazar indicated more arrests may follow as the investigation continues.
Rodriguez is being held at the Bexar County Adult Detention Center on a murder charge. His bond has been set at $250,000.
