June 3, 2025 — Yancheng, Jiangsu Province: A man wearing a silicone mask was arrested in connection with a series of gold thefts in the Yannan High-Tech Zone of Yancheng City. The suspect, identified as Gu, was linked to five separate burglaries, netting around ¥150,000 (HK$160,000) in stolen jewelry and cash.

The investigation began after local residents reported multiple thefts from their homes. Witnesses described seeing a suspicious individual with a reflective, unnatural-looking face, leading police to suspect the use of a disguise. Surveillance and targeted patrolling allowed law enforcement to track and apprehend Gu.

A search of his residence uncovered burglary tools, multiple silicone masks, and a portion of the stolen gold and cash. Gu, who has a prior criminal record for theft, reportedly used his locksmith training to break into various homes across multiple residential complexes.

Driven by financial struggles, Gu targeted residential buildings, using his expertise to gain entry undetected. His capture marks the end of a calculated theft spree that alarmed the local community.

Authorities have filed formal charges against Gu, and legal proceedings are underway. Police emphasized that the case underscores the importance of community vigilance and timely reporting of suspicious activity.

This incident highlights the dedicated efforts of law enforcement to protect citizens and uphold public safety, especially in high-density urban areas vulnerable to organized theft.
