A 46-year-old Maryland man, Lamar Maurice Williams of Upper Marlboro, has been charged in connection with a multi-state credit card theft spanning Caroline County, Virginia, and Charles County, Maryland, according to the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators began tracking the crime on Dec. 22, 2025, after reports of unlocked vehicles being entered in the Woodford area along Gatewood and Paige Roads. Stolen credit cards were used later that same evening in Maryland.

Through cross-jurisdiction coordination, Investigator S. Owens reviewed surveillance footage, identified Williams and his vehicle, and secured arrest warrants.

On Feb. 25, 2026, Williams was taken into custody by the Prince George’s County Police Department in Maryland without incident. He faces:

Two counts of felony credit card theft

Felony obtaining over $1,000 by false pretense

Two counts of misdemeanor obtaining money by false pretense

Misdemeanor unlawful entry into a vehicle with intent to commit a crime

Williams is currently held in Maryland pending extradition to Virginia. All victims have reportedly recovered their financial losses.

Sheriff Scott Moser praised Investigator Owens and local law enforcement partners for their cooperation and diligence in resolving the case, emphasizing the importance of residents locking vehicles and securing valuables.

The investigation remains ongoing.
