Mary Johnson, Tonya Barnett Arrested in Taco John’s Theft

North Platte duo accused of stealing $1,500

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) — Two women have been arrested after approximately $1,500 in cash was stolen from a Taco John’s in North Platte on Monday.

The theft was reported around 8 a.m. Security footage from the restaurant helped police identify the suspects. Officers conducted a search of a residence in the 900 block of East 12th Street around 2 p.m. and recovered the stolen money.

Mary L. Johnson, 46, was arrested and charged with theft, while Tonya A. Barnett, 36, was arrested and charged with aiding in the theft, according to a press release from the North Platte Police Department.

Both women are being held at the Lincoln County Detention Center as the investigation continues.
