A former U.S. Postal Service letter carrier, Mary Ann Magdamit, 31, of Carson, pleaded guilty Monday in federal court to stealing checks and credit cards from the mail and using them to fund a lavish lifestyle.
Magdamit, who worked at the Torrance main Post Office, admitted to conspiracy to commit bank fraud, a charge that carries up to 30 years in federal prison, according to prosecutors.
She stole mail containing checks, personal identification, and debit and credit cards. Magdamit sold many of the stolen cards online, used some for personal purchases, and distributed others to co-conspirators.
Prosecutors said she also arranged for stolen checks to be cashed using counterfeit IDs matching the check owners’ names. During a December 2024 search of her apartment, authorities seized over 130 stolen credit and debit cards, 16 U.S. Treasury checks, and a loaded ghost gun—a Glock clone without a serial number.
Federal agents uncovered luxury items purchased with stolen cards and learned Magdamit had booked international vacations to Aruba and Turks and Caicos using the fraudulent cards.
She was arrested on July 1 while still actively using stolen cards, and a second search of her home yielded additional stolen cards.
Over three years, Magdamit flaunted her extravagant purchases and vacations on social media, often displaying large sums of money. She has agreed to forfeit some luxury goods, including a Rolex watch, as part of the case.
