A routine traffic stop in Greenville, North Carolina on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, led to the arrest of 25-year-old Marquise Nelson, according to the Greenville Police Department.

Nelson, a passenger in the vehicle, allegedly gave officers a false name and age when questioned. After confirming his real identity, officers discovered that Nelson was wanted on multiple outstanding warrants.

Further search of the vehicle revealed a firearm and several pieces of stolen mail on the floorboard where Nelson had been seated. He was immediately taken into custody and now faces charges including:

Identity theft

Possession of stolen property

Providing false information to law enforcement

Authorities also served a full extradition warrant from Indiana for contempt of court in relation to a prior criminal charge. Warrants state that Nelson knowingly used another person’s identity in an attempt to evade arrest.

Nelson is currently being held at the Pitt County Detention Center on a $60,000 bond.
