SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Marley Oselmo received a 20-year prison sentence in Onondaga County Court for a murder committed in August 2023.
Oselmo pleaded guilty to the charges on April 23.
On August 29, Syracuse Police responded to a shooting on the 1900 block of South Avenue where they found 23-year-old Kelvonn Godbolt suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Godbolt later died at Upstate University Hospital. Authorities sought public assistance to locate Oselmo.
During the court proceedings, Godbolt’s mother, Stephanie Murphy, repeatedly called Oselmo a coward. “I’ve never hated a person the day in my life,” she said. “When you go to prison, I hope they do you filthy.”
Godbolt’s aunt, Kayla Schroeder, expressed that 20 years was not sufficient, stating, “My sister and my brother-in-law’s house is no longer a home, it’s a shrine.”
Oselmo will serve 15 years for the murder charge and an additional five years for a weapons charge, to run consecutively.
Judge Mary Anne Doherty did not permit cameras inside the courtroom.
