MARKHAM, ONT. — A longtime youth sports coach in Markham has been arrested and is facing several serious charges in connection with alleged sexual assaults of a minor, police confirmed.
Garth Morris, 58, of Markham was taken into custody on June 5 following an investigation launched in May 2025 by York Regional Police. Authorities say the investigation began after a victim came forward with allegations of repeated sexual assaults spanning from 2015 to 2024—starting when the victim was under the age of 16.
Morris has been charged with:
Invitation to sexual touching under 16
Sexual interference with a person under 16
Sexual assault
Sexual exploitation
Police said Morris has been involved with various youth sports programs, coaching basketball, tennis, and volleyball teams in the Markham area over several years.
Investigators are now urging any other potential victims to come forward and have released a photo of Morris to assist with their inquiry.
