ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — Two people were arrested in Cairo, Georgia, after deputies found methamphetamine packaged for sale during a traffic stop, according to the Grady County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO).
The suspects, identified as Mark Rutledge, 39, and Brianna Burton, 22, were taken into custody on Tuesday, November 11, after deputies spotted them in the parking lot of a Valero gas station.
Deputies recognized the pair and confirmed that both Rutledge and Burton had active warrants from multiple counties, including Grady County. They were immediately detained.
A GCSO K-9 unit was deployed and alerted deputies to narcotics inside the vehicle. During the search, officers reportedly discovered multiple bags of methamphetamine that appeared to be packaged for distribution.
This marks the second successful deployment of the sheriff’s office’s newest class of K-9 officers, with both operations resulting in drug arrests.
Rutledge and Burton now face charges of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. They remain in custody on their outstanding warrants and new drug charges, according to GCSO.
