PHOENIX, Ariz. — Two brothers, Mark Perez, 32, and Alan Perez, 28, were arrested in connection with multiple thefts from Auto Zone stores in Phoenix, authorities announced Tuesday.

Mark Perez was identified as the alleged suspect who stole tools and merchandise from several locations on Watson and Indian School roads. Alan Perez was arrested as the alleged getaway driver. Both were booked into jail on theft and drug charges.

Buckeye police said the pair were involved in three separate theft incidents. Mark reportedly fled in a black Volvo SUV without a license plate. Officers used the Buckeye Real-Time Crime Center, launched last year, to track the vehicle and identify its license plate when it entered the city again, aiding the investigation.

Organized retail theft continues to be a significant concern in Maricopa County. In 2023, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office established the Organized Retail Crime Taskforce to combat the growing issue.
