Eatonton, GA — A massive methamphetamine bust in Putnam County has led to the arrest of one man and the seizure of drugs valued at $2 million.

On July 30, local and federal authorities arrested Mario Munoz after intercepting a package containing 50 kilograms (over 50 pounds) of methamphetamine. The drugs, with an estimated street value of $2 million, were scheduled to be delivered to a home on Shady Dale Road in Putnam County.

The seizure was part of a joint investigation between the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, and the U.S. Homeland Security Drug Strike Team. According to Detective Lt. Harry Luke, the intercepted shipment included additional meth intended for the suspect’s residence.

Munoz, the sole suspect identified so far, was charged with trafficking methamphetamine, a violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act. He also received a citation for an expired vehicle decal, stemming from a traffic stop during the investigation.

He is currently being held without bond at the Putnam County Jail in Eatonton and has appeared before Chief Magistrate Dorothy Adams for a first hearing.

Authorities emphasized the importance of the seizure, calling it a significant disruption to the meth supply in Middle Georgia.
