Orange, NJ — Marcus Wright, 34, of Newark, was sentenced to life in prison for the 2020 murder of 25-year-old Wisguen Marc near 193 Main St.
The incident occurred in November 2020 following a fight between the two men. During the altercation, Wright pulled a gun and shot Marc in the back.
Wright was found guilty in May 2025 of first-degree murder and weapons charges. Prosecutors emphasized the severity of the crime and the impact on the community.
Essex County Assistant Prosecutor Austin Edwards stated, “We hope that today’s sentence sends a clear message that gun violence and senseless killings will be met with the most severe punishment.”
Assistant Prosecutor Zhen Liu added, “While no amount of time in prison will bring the victim back, the life sentence ensures he will never be a threat to our community again.”
Wright must serve 85% of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole, making it highly unlikely he will ever walk the streets of Essex County again.
