SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A 24-year-old man is facing serious charges after allegedly threatening to kill San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones in a social media post on Tuesday.
According to the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD), Marcos Olvera was arrested and charged with retaliation, a third-degree felony, after he posted a comment on X (formerly Twitter) that read, “we need to kill the mayor.”
Authorities say the post referenced the controversial Project Marvel — a proposed sports and entertainment district. Mayor Ortiz Jones has publicly called for a pause in the project to allow for further analysis, prompting mixed public responses.
City Public Service (CPS Energy) flagged the alarming post to SAPD, which immediately issued an arrest warrant. Olvera was taken into custody and booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center. His bond has been set at $125,000.
SAPD emphasized that threats against public officials are taken seriously, especially when tied to high-profile public matters.
