TAMPA, Fla. — A Citrus Park man, Marco Fragoso, 24, was arrested Saturday night after a police officer fired a shot at him during a drug-related chase in Tampa’s Hyde Park area.
According to the Tampa Police Department (TPD), the incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on the 400 block of South Albany Avenue. Officers observed Fragoso and another individual allegedly involved in narcotics activity in an alley on South Howard Avenue.
When police attempted to make contact, Fragoso fled, dropping a small bag of suspected narcotics. During the pursuit, he briefly evaded officers but was later located hiding near a vehicle on South Albany Avenue. Fragoso reportedly motioned toward his waistband, prompting an officer to fire one round. No one was injured.
Fragoso was taken into custody and now faces charges including possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with evidence, and resisting arrest without violence.
As per TPD protocol, the officer involved has been placed on administrative leave while the investigation continues.
