Berwick, Pa. — Police in Berwick have arrested Marc Daniel Velez, 31, after spotting him at a local convenience store on the evening of September 13.
According to Sgt. Joseph Loyacono, officers encountered Velez inside the Turkey Hill on West Front Street around 10:15 p.m. He was wanted on an active warrant from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office for domestic relations and was also a suspect in a theft earlier that day.
Police allege Velez stole an iPhone 15 Plus, valued at approximately $800, from the Berwick Smoke Shop. When approached, Velez reportedly ignored officers’ commands and reached into his pockets, forcing police to use physical restraint to arrest him.
A search revealed a pocketknife, an empty Buprenorphine and Naloxone wrapper, and a driver’s license belonging to another person. Investigators later confirmed the license had been reported stolen.
Velez was charged through the office of Magisterial District Judge Brenda Hess Williams with multiple offences, including theft, resisting arrest, and possession of stolen property.
