EL PASO, Texas — Manuel Melendez, 28, of Horizon City, was arrested on June 20 after filing a false stolen vehicle report to avoid making payments on his truck, according to the El Paso Police Department (EPPD).

The incident began on June 14, when the EPPD Auto Theft Task Force responded to a reported vehicle theft. Melendez claimed his truck was stolen while he was attending a Coldplay concert.

However, after an investigation, officers found that Melendez knowingly submitted a false police report. He was charged with false report to a peace officer and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with a $5,000 bond.

This case highlights the consequences of filing false reports and the thorough investigative work by the local authorities.
