Delhi Police have arrested Manoj alias Rocky, a 33-year-old man, in connection with a dacoity and murder case in Ashok Vihar, Delhi. Manoj was apprehended in Ghaziabad on May 15 after evading arrest for several months.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Harsh Indora, Manoj had been on the run since his name surfaced during the investigation into a daylight robbery and the subsequent murder of a man carrying Rs 16.5 lakh in cash. The victim was shot in the chest with a pistol and later declared dead at the hospital.
Manoj is accused of supplying arms and ammunition to his associate, Faiyaz alias Alan, who was directly involved in the February 25 incident. After the crime, Manoj went underground, frequently changing his location and using a SIM card registered in someone else’s name to evade police surveillance. His last known location was Ghaziabad, though his permanent address is in Hapur district.
Based on local intelligence and technical surveillance, Delhi Police tracked down and arrested Manoj in Ghaziabad. During interrogation, he confessed to providing the arms to Faiyaz, who carried out the fatal shooting.
Police say that Manoj had limited education, studying only up to the ninth grade, and came from a poor family. He became involved in criminal activities after associating with notorious criminals, including Nagender, Babbar, Rohit, Janak, and Faiyaz, while living in Vipin Garden and Sector 16, Dwarka. Two of his associates from the 2017 case, Nagender and Rohit, have been declared proclaimed offenders.
