Pratapgarh police on Monday arrested a woman and her nephew for allegedly murdering a 35-year-old widow in Sarehua village.
The victim, identified as Puja Gupta, was found strangled to death inside her home on Saturday.
Authorities took Manju Gupta, 39, and her nephew Sonu Gupta, 28, both residents of Chamrupur Shuklan, into custody. Police revealed that the duo allegedly killed Puja because she maintained contact with her husband despite repeated warnings. Manju feared her husband might leave her for Puja.
On the day of the murder, Manju and Sonu reportedly visited Puja’s home while she was alone. A confrontation quickly escalated into a scuffle, and the suspects allegedly strangled her to death before fleeing the scene.
The crime came to light when Puja’s seven-year-old son discovered her body. Following a complaint lodged by Puja’s mother-in-law, the police registered an FIR and launched an investigation.
Police continue to investigate the case to uncover further details and determine the exact sequence of events leading to the tragic killing.
