The Jaipur City Police on Tuesday arrested a 32-year-old man, Manish Sharma, who had been robbing commuters while impersonating a police officer for nearly two years. Sharma, originally from Karauli and residing in Pratap Nagar, had been targeting solo bikers on deserted roads around Diggi and Tilawala.
According to DCP (South) Rajarshi Raj Varma, Sharma was nabbed by a special team from Muhana police station, led by SHO Gur Bhupendra Singh. During interrogation, Sharma admitted to committing around a dozen highway robberies, where he would flash a policeman’s photo on his mobile phone to trick victims before robbing them.
The latest complaint came from Guruprasad Kumawat (19), who reported that on July 26, two men on a bike stopped him near Tilawala, posed as policemen, and stole Rs5,000 and his motorcycle after physically assaulting him.
Following the arrest, police recovered the stolen motorcycle used in the crime. Efforts are underway to track down Sharma’s accomplice, who is currently absconding.
The case has triggered enhanced night patrols across Jaipur South, particularly along Diggi Road and Ring Road, where similar incidents had been frequently reported.
