Manipur Police have stepped up their law enforcement efforts with a series of significant operations over the past two days, targeting drug trafficking, illegal arms possession, and traffic violations across the state.
On July 25, two individuals—Peter Haokip (33) from Thadou Veng, Singat, and Lhunkholal Haokip (23) from Changlei Veng Molnom village—were arrested under the jurisdiction of Behiang Police Station in Churachandpur district. The police seized 156 soap cases containing contraband brown sugar, marking a major drug bust in the region.
The following day, security forces conducted coordinated operations across multiple districts including Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur, recovering a substantial cache of arms, ammunition, and warlike materials. Details of the recovery were shared in a press briefing held at the Manipur Police Headquarters.
To safeguard the movement of essential goods, the police successfully escorted 275 vehicles along National Highway 37, employing armed convoys on sensitive routes to ensure uninterrupted transit.
A total of 111 checkpoints were established across both hill and valley districts, with no detentions reported, highlighting the effective monitoring and cooperation from the public.
In a continued crackdown on traffic violations, the Manipur Police detained 25 vehicles on July 25 due to issues such as missing registration documents and number plates. Additionally, tinted films were removed from 18 vehicles to enforce visibility and safety standards.
These operations reflect the police’s commitment to maintaining law and order, combating illegal activities, and ensuring public safety throughout Manipur.
