In a significant drug trafficking crackdown, a joint team of Manipur Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) arrested two individuals and seized over 2 kilograms of suspected heroin in Imphal on Friday. The arrested suspects have been identified as Jenarul Mia, 21, from Shasani, Malda district, West Bengal, and Deba Das, 18, from Bokajan Bazar, Karbi Anglong district, Assam.
Officials confirmed that two packets weighing a total of 2.066 kg of suspected heroin powder were recovered along with two mobile phones and a motorcycle used for transporting the drugs. Both accused are currently under interrogation to uncover the wider narcotics network operating in the region.
This seizure is considered a major breakthrough in Manipur’s ongoing efforts to combat the rising drug trafficking and narcotics-related crimes. The police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and intensified search operations and area domination drives in vulnerable districts.
In a related development, security forces have also recovered arms and ammunition in Ngariyan Chingyang, Imphal East, as part of ongoing security operations.
