Manipur police arrested two individuals in Thoubal district on April 25 after recovering large quantities of narcotic substances, including brown sugar and heroin, during a search operation.
Acting on specific intelligence, police raided the residence of Wangmayum Barul Alam in Lilong Haoreibi area, where they found 3.9 kg of brown sugar, seven soap cases containing 12 grams of suspected heroin powder each, and seven 100 ml bottles of codeine. Barul Alam was promptly arrested for his involvement in drug trafficking.
In a follow-up operation, the authorities seized Rs1.14 lakh in unaccounted cash from the residence of Yangkhubam Hafi in Darul Uloom Makha, which was believed to be the proceeds from drug sales. In addition, various pharmaceutical capsules were also found at the location. The total value of the seized substances is yet to be determined.
The police have continued to conduct extensive search operations across the state, particularly since the ethnic violence erupted between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities in May 2023.
