Manipur Police have made significant progress in restoring order and ensuring public safety in the state by making a series of arrests. The authorities carried out two major operations in Kakching and Churachandpur districts, targeting criminal activities such as extortion and narcotics trafficking.
The first operation led to the arrest of Thounaojam Johnson Singh, 42, a suspected member of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group). Singh was apprehended from Wabagai in Kakching district. He is believed to have been heavily involved in extortion operations within the region, making his arrest a crucial step in curbing the group’s influence.
In a second operation, the police intercepted a vehicle in Churachandpur district and arrested two individuals—P. Thangkhanlam (45) and Mangliankhup (32)—who were found carrying illegal drugs. The authorities seized around 776 grams of suspected brown sugar and 60 grams of suspected WY tablets. The vehicle used for trafficking was also confiscated by the police.
In response to increasing concerns about criminal activities, security forces conducted extensive search operations and area domination exercises throughout the state. National Highway 2 saw tightened security, with 331 vehicles checked and 106 checkpoints established to ensure safety and smooth movement of goods. The police remain committed to maintaining public order and fighting crime across the state.
