Manipur security forces have arrested two active women cadres of the banned People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) for allegedly abducting three minors with the intent of recruiting them into the militant outfit. All three children were rescued safely, officials said on Wednesday.
The arrests were made on Monday following an investigation into the abduction of the minors the previous day from Kakching Khunou Ngaikhong Leikai under Waikhong police station in Kakching district. Preliminary investigations indicate that the children were kidnapped for recruitment purposes.
The arrested cadres have been identified as Khundrakpam Ongbi Ningthoujam Roshidiya (24) of Khangabok Khulakpam Leikai, Thoubal district, and Lisham Ongbi Bidya (30) of Thoubal Haokha Maning Leikai, also in Thoubal district. Security forces rescued the children from Uchiwa Awang Leikai in Imphal West and handed them over to their parents. During the operation, a car reportedly used in the kidnapping was recovered. Authorities are continuing efforts to trace and apprehend other accomplices.
In a separate operation on Tuesday, security personnel arrested a drug peddler, Nantu Deb (44) of Karimganj district, Assam. He was apprehended from Nepali Khuti along National Highway-2 under Senapati police station in Senapati district. Officials seized 11.3 kg of opium, a vehicle and two mobile phones from him
