In a major operation, a combined team from the central and state forces in Manipur arrested three alleged drug traffickers and seized 26 soap cases of brown sugar, valued at approximately Rs 4 crores, as part of an international drug trade bust.
The authorities acted swiftly, impounding two vehicles involved in the smuggling operation from Myanmar into Manipur. The arrests and seizures took place at multiple locations in the southern parts of Manipur on Wednesday.
One of the main suspects, Md. Faiju Rahaman (40), a resident of Kairang Mamang Leikai in Imphal East District, was apprehended during routine frisking checks along the NH-2 highway near Naranseina and Sunusiphai village in Bishnupur District. Police recovered 12 soap caps containing approximately 661.8 grams of brown sugar and a vehicle from his possession.
In a separate intelligence-driven operation, the Assam Rifles detained two more individuals in possession of 14 soap cases of brown sugar during a mobile vehicle checkpoint on the road between Tuitong and Sehlon in Chandel district. The authorities, acting on precise intelligence, searched the vehicle and discovered the drugs hidden inside the boot.
Though the names of the second set of suspects have not been revealed, they were handed over to the Molcham police for further investigation and legal proceedings.
The law enforcement agencies are continuing their efforts to uncover the extent of the drug trafficking network and identify additional individuals involved in this illegal operation.
