Manipur Police Arrest Five for Drug Trafficking in Imphal East & Thoubal

Multiple arrests made in drug and insurgency-related operations across Manipur

Security forces and police officials in Manipur have arrested five people in two separate operations conducted in Imphal East and Thoubal districts for their alleged involvement in drug trafficking and peddling.

On September 4, four residents of Khomidok Karong village, under Heingang Police Station, Imphal East, were apprehended for sales and drug peddling. The arrested individuals are Mariyam Begum (54), Abdul Matalib (36), Md. Umar (28), and Ruhina (30). Authorities recovered 129 grams of heroin No. 4, 137 empty vials, 14 syringes, seven mobile phones, and cash amounting to Rs 1,23,750 from their possession.

In a separate operation on the same day, Thoubal Police arrested Asem Somanda Singh of Khekman Makha Leikai, Thoubal district, from his residence. Items seized include boxes of SAMPFX+, SPAS-TRASCEN-PLUS, bottles of TUSSREX-TR and BESCODEX cough syrups.

In related developments, police arrested Laiphrakpam Debananda Singh alias Angangcha/Nongshaba (34), a self-styled lance corporal of the banned outfit UPPK, from Laipham Khunou Makha Leikai, Imphal East district on September 5.

On September 4, two active cadres of PREPAK — Nongmaithem Usham Pakpi Devi (46) of Thoubal and Leihaorongbam Premi Devi (39) of Charangpat Mayai Leikai, Thoubal — were arrested at Ngariyan Naka checkpoint under Andro Police Station, Imphal East. Recovered were an Activa scooter, 15 PREPAK demand letters, and two mobile phones.

The same day, two active PREPAK (PRO) cadres — Laishram Thoithoi alias Lanthouba (23) and Laishram Bhumeswar alias Ingba (45) from Chairel Mangjing, Bishnupur — were detained from Kakching and Bishnupur districts. Seizures included an Activa scooter, a mobile phone with SIM card, and an Aadhaar card.

Meanwhile, Manipur Police also detained one vehicle for traffic violations and removed tinted films from seven vehicles on September 4 as part of their ongoing traffic enforcement drive.
