Manipur Police Arrest 10 in Drug Trafficking and Poppy Cultivation Crackdown

Police seize 174 soap cases of brown sugar, arrest 10 traffickers

Manipur Police have successfully arrested 10 individuals involved in drug trafficking and the illegal cultivation of poppy in the state. The arrests were made during two separate operations on March 29.

In the first operation, four individuals were arrested from Songjang village, located in the Kangpokpi district. These individuals were found to be involved in the illegal cultivation of poppy, a key ingredient for producing opium. The arrested cultivators have been identified as:

Janggoulen Kipgen (41)

Letginlal Kipgen (41)

Kamginlen Kipgen (25)

Thangminlen Kipgen (34)

The arrests were made in connection with a case registered at Kangpokpi Police Station regarding the illegal poppy cultivation.

In a second operation on the same day, the Manipur State Police arrested six more individuals connected to a drug trafficking syndicate operating in the region. The arrested persons are:

Khaikahao Kipgen (also known as John, 40)

Letgoumang Touthang (also known as Amon, 33)

Aabi Baral (28)

Jitten Kharka (22)

L H Ranirou (42)

Leah Chao (44)

During this operation, the police seized 174 soap cases of suspected brown sugar, a highly potent and dangerous narcotic. A four-wheeler believed to have been used in the trafficking operation was also recovered.

In a separate operation in Tengnoupal district, police recovered a significant cache of weapons and explosives. This included 3 heavy mortar launchers, 5 metal IEDs, one IED, 5kg of plastic IED, and multiple firearms and ammunition, including AK-47 and SLR ammunition. These items were found in the Molnom-Senam area.

The Manipur Police continue to investigate the drug trafficking and arms smuggling networks in the region, aiming to dismantle these illegal activities and maintain law and order.
