Manipur Police have arrested lawyer Wahidur Rahman (51) along with Md Abdul Samad (54), Md Bashirur Rahman (53), and Jamila Begum (38) for allegedly forging voter ID cards to fraudulently claim motor accident compensation.
The arrests followed a complaint filed on July 16 by the Motor Accident Claim Tribunal at Lamphel Police Station. Investigations revealed that Wahidur Rahman orchestrated the scheme, using fake voter IDs, fictitious names, and fabricated photographs to submit compensation claims based on a tribunal order from December 18, 2024, awarding Rs 1.5 lakh.
The other three accused reportedly hired the lawyer and filed claims in separate cases. The suspects were presented before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody until July 24. Lamphel Police Station registered an FIR, and further investigation is underway.
