Excise officials in Kerala have seized 3.5 kg of high-grade cannabis, locally known as “Gajapati Special,” in a successful anti-narcotics operation near Kannankulangara, close to Thrissur city.

The Thrissur Excise Intelligence and Excise Range teams conducted the joint raid after receiving reports from local residents about suspicious nighttime activity by youths in the area. Following days of surveillance, officers arrested Mani Naik (33), a native of Odisha, who was found in possession of the smuggled ganja.

Officials confirmed that the cannabis had been brought from Odisha and stored in Thrissur for local distribution. The operation was made possible with crucial support from alert local citizens, who helped identify unusual behavior leading to the bust.

Authorities have initiated further investigation to trace the supply network and identify potential collaborators in both Odisha and Kerala.
